Principal Design Engineer – Electrical

About the Role

Design Solutions Inc. (DSI) is looking for an experienced Principal Design Engineer – Electrical to provide technical leadership across electrical design and engineering projects. The role involves leading design development, technical reviews, multidisciplinary coordination, and delivery of high-quality engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design activities from concept design through detailed design and project delivery.
• Develop and review electrical systems for commercial, residential, hospitality, healthcare, and other building projects.
• Design and review power distribution, lighting, emergency power, small power, earthing, lightning protection, and other electrical systems.
• Perform and review load calculations, cable sizing, voltage-drop calculations, short-circuit calculations, and equipment selection.
• Prepare and review electrical drawings, schematics, specifications, calculations, BOQs, and technical reports.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant international codes, standards, authority requirements, and project specifications.
• Lead multidisciplinary coordination with HVAC, PHE, Structural, Architectural, and BIM teams.
• Review BIM models, identify design conflicts, and lead clash resolution and coordination.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and designers.
• Participate in client, consultant, and internal design review meetings.
• Resolve complex technical issues and provide practical engineering solutions.
• Monitor project deliverables to ensure quality, accuracy, and timely completion.
• Support project planning, resource allocation, and technical decision-making.
• Contribute to improving electrical design standards, workflows, and engineering processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in electrical design and engineering.
• Strong experience in MEP consultancy and multidisciplinary building projects.
• Extensive knowledge of building electrical systems and engineering calculations.
• Strong understanding of international electrical codes, standards, and design practices.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and experience with Revit MEP/BIM.
• Strong multidisciplinary coordination and design review experience.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deliverables effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with large-scale and complex international projects.
• UAE/GCC project experience will be an added advantage.
• Strong knowledge of BIM workflows and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Experience with electrical design and analysis software such as ETAP, Dialux, or similar tools.
• Experience in client and consultant coordination.
